paul poet

In 1971, Paul Poet was born in the Arabian town of Abquaiq.
Poet – an artist, hardcore singer, promoter, cultural critic and graduate of media philosophy - is a striking protagonist of the Viennese underground scene and has been making his own films since 1996.

While his short film debut HOCH ZEIT featured a range of performers and soundtrack contributors from the international noise rock scene, including seminal luminaries like NEUROSIS or the MELVINS, Poet now works as a director, editor and cameraman and, together with Michael Parenti, produces features and clips for a range of broadcasters such as ORF, VIVA and W1.

In 1999, a music video for Sardinian band MUCCA MACCA brought him to international attention and won Poet the Best Video Director award at the Premio Duel Videoclip in Faenza. Italian broadcaster Rai Uno even went as far as pronouncing him the new Chris Cunningham.

Not content with producing and spreading his own wares, Poet also instigated and organised the first European online film festival INTERNET FILM AWARD as well as a programme on popular culture, THE INDIE CHANNEL. Furthermore, he also came up with an online version of Schlingensief’s Container Action.

The documentary FOREIGNERS OUT – SCHLINGENSIEF’S CONTAINER (2002) is his first full-length feature. After several television assignments and music videos, Poet is currently working on a number of new documentary and feature film projects.

Paul Poet lives and works in Vienna.
